The program is being implemented by the Mariupol Development Fund, Zaporozhye Joint Action Platform, Kryvyi Rih Future Fund with financial support from Metinvest Group. The purpose of the training is to motivate young people to study technical sciences and improve the quality of their teaching in schools for the development of Ukrainian cities. The organizers of the project want everyone to be able to enroll in technical areas in secondary and higher educational institutions, and for this they set the task by a third in relation to the previous year to increase the average score of the UPE in mathematics, physics and chemistry.
What are the results of the program?
More than 5 thousand students in 200 schools next year will be able to study exact subjects in a new way. All lessons created by teachers will be posted on a special Internet platform, where teachers can exchange their best practices and apply them in practice.
All this so that school graduates can show good results of UPE and enter universities. For those teachers whose students will be able to achieve this, financial motivation is provided: for each student who gains more than 170 points on the UPE and enters a university for a technical specialty, a bonus of 10 thousand hryvnia is provided.
For the final STEAM-CAMP teachers have developed more than 400 integrated lessons, in which they used all the knowledge gained during training. Teachers note that thanks to participation in the program, they received valuable information and have already begun to apply it in practice, creating innovative educational content.
“Such initiatives are very important for organizing the educational process,” says Artyom, a computer science teacher in elementary grades Dudka.
"This is a grandiose project, which is necessary not only for technical disciplines, but also for other specialties," says physics and mathematics teacher Sergei Avrakhov.
“We see how teachers are changing, how their approach is changing, how they are introducing integrated lessons that are becoming more and more interesting for our children, ”says Lilia Tkachenko, Director of the Department of Corporate Culture and Personnel Development of Metinvest Group.
Universities from Kryvyi Rih, Mariupol and Zaporozhye are waiting for applicants for more than 20 specialties at the Krivoy Rog National University and the Technological Institute of the State University of Economics and Technology, the Priazovsky state State Technical University, Zaporozhye National University and Zaporozhye Polytechnic.
How it was
The program started in February this year in Krivoy Rog and Mariupol, and in April they were joined by teachers from Zaporozhye. The selection of the most interested teachers in the program took place through video testing and essay writing. The training consisted of five modules: educational leadership, modern teaching methodologies, digitalization, critical thinking, working with information and communicating with students.
Program participants developed the ideal STEAM lesson in groups. Then their results were assessed by a competent jury, so that eventually the students of the teachers participating in the project could enter technical specialties at universities.
New approaches to the development of STEAM education, including its popularization among schoolgirls and women, are in focus the international community. At the end of the STEAM-CAMP program, teachers were congratulated by representatives of the embassies of Denmark, Germany, France, Great Britain, the EU representative office in Ukraine, the head of the UN office in Ukraine, the UN Women office in Ukraine, and the OSCE office in Mariupol.
What is the face of science
As part of the educational program STEAM-CAMP in Mariupol, Kryvyi Rih and Zaporozhye, the exhibition "Science is It" is being held. This is an educational art project implemented by STEM is FEM with the support of international organizations UN Women in Ukraine and the United Nations Children's Fund in Ukraine (UNICEF).
The project introduces everyone to Ukrainian women scientists of the XX-XXI centuries and refutes the opinion that science is not a woman's business.
Portraits of twelve amazing Ukrainian women who changed the world are designed to inspire modern schoolgirls to improve in the exact sciences and be proud of the achievements of compatriots in technology and innovation.
