The smelting shop of the BOF # 2 of the German steel company thyssenkrupp Steel has reopened due to a downtime due to the replacement of the lining of blast furnace # 1.
Pig iron from the blast furnace is mainly processed into raw steel in converter shop 2, but the resulting downtime did not lead to additional production losses, tk claims.
The focus of the modernization was the replacement of an in-house bucket transport crane, which has a deadweight of 830 tonnes and transports buckets filled with 265 metric tonnes of molten steel from the converter to the continuous casting plant.
Blast furnace # 1 lining is part of the company's strategy to optimize its entire production network under Strategy 20-30. The company claims to target its product portfolio towards future markets and lucrative steel grades, including ultra-high-strength multiphase steels, high surface quality grades and steels for electric vehicles.
