Results of rolled metal production in Ukraine for 8 months of 2021

In January-August 2021, metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine produced 13.01 million tons of rolled metal (106.0% compared to the same period in 2020), of which about 10.22 million tons, or 78.5%, were exported. In the same period in 2020, the share of exports was about 82.4%.

The share of semi-finished products in export deliveries for 8 months of 2021 is 46.55%, which is lower than the indicator for the same period in 2020 (50.44%). The share of flat products in export deliveries for 8 months of 2021 is noticeably higher than in January-July 2020 (37.04% and 32.13%, respectively). The share of long products in export supplies for 8 months of 2021 is inferior to the indicator for the same period in 2020 (16.41% in 2021, compared to 17.43% in 2020).

In January-August 2021, the capacity of the domestic market was 3507.9 thousand tons of rolled metal, of which 712.9 thousand tons or 20.32% were imports. In the same period in 2020, the capacity of the domestic market was 2,921.6 thousand tons, of which 762.6 thousand tons or 26.10% were imported. Thus, for 8 months of 2021, there is an increase in the capacity of the domestic market relative to January-July 2020 by 20.07%, with a simultaneous reduction in the share of the import component by 5.78%.

In the structure of imports in January-August 2021, deliveries of flat products significantly predominate over long products (55.16% and 42.68%, respectively); in the same period of 2020, the dominance of flat products over long products was practically commensurate from 2021 (56.05% and 42.67%, respectively).

The main export markets of Ukrainian metal products in January-August 2021 are the EU countries (35.7%), the rest of Europe (20.9%) and the NAFTA countries (10.2%).
