thyssenkrupp Steel announced bluemint, a new range of low carbon steels. This is considered a milestone in the company's transition to climate-neutral steel. The company reportedly shipped the first batches of steel to premium manufacturer Kaldewei in Alain. The CO2-reduced products are manufactured in the Duisburg plant and give customers the confidence to use high quality steel with an improved environmental balance.
The company has adopted an approach to reducing carbon dioxide emissions at its blast furnace in Duisburg, which has been independently validated by the international certification body DNV. This approach reduces the carbon intensity per tonne of steel by almost 70%, the benefits of which have also been confirmed by the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy.
Commenting on the launch, Bernhard Osburg, CEO of thyssenkrupp Steel, said the company will now continue active marketing efforts for its bluemint steel product range. Foods contribute to real and measurable reductions in carbon dioxide. He added that the company plans to expand its product commercialization and has begun negotiations with a number of additional customers.
