According to vostalpine CEO Herbert Eibensteiner, the auto industry is still plagued by semiconductor supply chain problems and supply cuts are unlikely to occur until the middle of next fiscal year.
“However, in this regard, it is important to note that the decline in car production is not related to weak demand,” Eibensteiner said during an online conference on Wednesday.
According to him, due to problems with the supply of microcircuits in some regions, there will be a delay in the turnover of orders for voestalpine products. “Our North American and Asian factories are much less affected by semiconductor shortages than our European ones,” added Eibensteiner.
The demand for the products of the voestalpine group in the construction, mechanical engineering and consumer goods industries remains strong. The company expects the rail segment to continue to perform well despite the usual seasonal weakness.
The energy sector has seen a significant recovery lately, and this trend should continue in the second half of the 2021/22 fiscal year, the company said. The aerospace industry is also showing signs of recovery.
Voestalpine also highlighted its efforts to further research green hydrogen in projects such as H2FUTURE at the Linz plant and SuSteel at Leoben-Donavitz. The company is also developing its greentec steel program for the decarburization of steel, from the production of coal blast furnaces to EAF.
