Severstal, one of the largest vertically integrated metals and mining companies in the world, has developed a climate memorandum called “Together for a low carbon future” in support of global efforts to prevent further climate change, the company said in a press release on Friday, November 12. ...
The memorandum was aimed at obliging the participants in the Severstal supply chain to take measures that will help reduce their carbon footprint, as part of its focus on cooperation for decarbonization.
The memorandum contains five guiding principles, as well as recommendations for their implementation. Those who support the memorandum undertake:
• Introduce the climate agenda into corporate governance practice
• Estimate greenhouse gas emissions and set reduction targets
• Manage climate risks and adapt to climate change
• Support the development and deployment of low-carbon technology, and
• Establishing the Climate Responsible for Stakeholder Engagement.
Schneider Electric and Air Liquide were the first partners to join the initiative to join forces for a sustainable low-carbon future, it said.
