Russia, the world's largest exporter of billets, in January-September 2021 recorded an increase in foreign sales of this material by 23.33% compared to the same period last year. According to SteelMint, the volume of exports for the reporting period amounted to 12.44 million tons (million tons), compared with 10.08 million tons in January-September 2020.
The main reason for the growth in exports during this period was active purchases outside China. Mexico, Taiwan, the leading billet importer, Mexico, ahead of Taiwan, ranked first in imports of steel billets from Russia with 2.64 million tonnes in January-September 2021, an increase of a whopping 116% YoY from 1.22 million tons in January-September 2021.
