China is aiming to cut steel energy consumption by 2% and reduce carbon emissions from the aluminum sector by 5% by 2025, the country's industry ministry said in a raw material development plan on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said the country will also strengthen its exploration of domestic iron ore and copper resources and support the development of metal recycling to improve the self-efficiency of resource use.
MIIT said China's steel, cement and basic commodity production capacity "will only decline" by 2025 and will explore phased production mechanisms for the steel sector.
