US Steel has announced that it will build a US$3 billion plant in northeast Arkansas, adjacent to the existing Big River Steel plant.
It was planned to install two electric arc furnaces at the new mill with an annual production capacity of 3 million tons of improved steel. Construction was expected to start in the first quarter of 2022, with project completion and full operation expected in 2024
year. Once completed, the new plant and the Big River Steel plant will become a giant steel plant with a 6.3 million ton production capacity.
The aim of the new steel plant is to meet the urgent needs of domestic customers in the US supply chain.
