According to Worldsteel, in 2021, metallurgical enterprises of the countries of the world produced 1,429.54 million tons of pig iron, of which 1,326.85 million tons were smelted by the blast-furnace method and 102.69 million tons by the direct renewal method. This is 1.18% higher than the figure of 1412.91 million tons in January-December 2020.
The first place belongs to the People's Republic of China, whose metallurgists smelted 868.57 million tons of pig iron in January-December 2021, which is 4.30% lower than the same period in 2020 (907.60 million tons). The share of Chinese pig iron in world production for 12 months of 2021 is 60.8%.
Ukraine produced 21.17 million tons of pig iron, which is 3.6% more compared to January-December 2020 and ranks 10th among 38 pig iron producing countries.
World steel production for 12 months of 2021 is 1911.95 million tons, which is 3.82% higher than the figure of 1841.59 million tons in 2020.
The leader here is also the People's Republic of China, which produced 1,032.79 million tons, which is 3.00% lower than in January-December 2020 (1,064.73 million tons). The share of China in world steel production is 54.0%.
Turkey produced 40.36 million tons or 112.7% compared to January-December 2020 and rose from 8th to 7th place, displacing Germany with a production of 40.07 million tons or 112.3% compared to by January-December 2020 to the 8th position.
Ukraine produced 21.37 million tons of steel or 103.6% compared to January-December 2020 and ranks 14th among 64 steel-producing countries.
