According to JPC, consumption of finished steel in April-January rose by 14.2% to 86.3 million tons, while production over the same period jumped by 20.5% to 92.82 million tons.
Crude steel output rose just 0.3% year-on-year in January and fell 1.1% month-on-month to 10.3 million tonnes. Pig iron production fell 1.2% year on year and 2.4% month on month to 6.6 million tonnes.
Steel production in April-January increased by 17.5% compared to the same period last year to 98.4 million tons, while pig iron production increased by 15.1% to 64.6 million tons, and pig iron production increased by 25.5%.
Production of crude steel and finished steel in the public sector grew faster than production in the private sector in April-January, by 21.6% and 32.6% year on year, respectively.
Crude steel production by integrated steelmakers Sail, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, JSPL, RINL and AM/NS India during April-January was 62%, while finished steel production was 57%.
Imports of finished steel fell 22.8% yoy to 450,000 tons in January, but rose 13.9% yoy. Imports in April-January increased by 3% to 3.9 million tons over the same period.
