The groundbreaking ceremony for the ThyssenKrupp scrap metal processing plant took place in Duisburg. This processing plant was part of the REDERS project funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in the amount of 6.4 million euros. The REDERS project is a steelmaking process with increased recyclability to reduce CO2 emissions.
Dr. Arnd Köfler, Thyssenkrupp's chief technology officer, said the project will enable the company to make rapid progress in reducing CO2 emissions.
The processing plant will produce high quality recycled products used in Thyssenkrupp's blast furnaces. Once completed, the plant will produce up to 260,000 tons of processed blue mint per year.
