German Finance Minister Christian Lindner told the Financial Times that he does not approve of the idea of confiscating the personal assets of Russians to finance the restoration of Ukraine at their expense.
“Lindner said he was opposed to the confiscation of the personal assets of Russian oligarchs,” the newspaper notes.
“The barriers to seizing assets are very significant,” the minister explained, recalling that the authorities of countries with the rule of law guarantee the inviolability of private property.
At the same time, Lindner repeated that the German government was ready to consider a proposal to confiscate the previously frozen foreign assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. However, he stressed the need to study the legal issues and implications for the international order in the event of a seizure of CBR assets.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported with reference to the EU project that the European Union would explore the possibility of using the assets of individuals of the Russian Federation, who fell under sanctions, to finance the restoration of Ukraine.
