The EU General Court stood aside from the Commission's decision barring a proposed merger between Thyssenkrupp and Tata Steel in 2019.
In 2018, the two companies notified the Commission that they planned to take joint control of a newly formed joint venture for plated steel and laminated steel. packaging products and hot-dip galvanized steel products used in the automotive industry.
The Commission indicated that the deal was incompatible with the internal market and the European Economic Area (EEA). However, Thyssenkrupp and Tata Steel cannot offer comprehensive solutions to the competition problem.
