India's steel production will double to 240 million tonnes over the next eight years, newly appointed steel minister Jyotiradithya Scindia said on Monday, July 11.
“Steel makes an important contribution to the economic development of any country. Today, India is the second largest steel producer in the world with an output of 120 million tons per year. I am sure that the goal we have set, to double it to 240 million tons per year in the next eight years, will be achieved," he said.
“Medium and small industries also play an important role in the steel sector, accounting for almost 50-52 percent of production thanks to their nearly 3,000 units. I guarantee that steel production in the country will increase by attracting medium and small enterprises. with large units,” he said.
