The Russian government has made a proposal to keep the quota for the export of ferrous scrap for another six months, until June 30. Exports within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will remain quota-free, according to an official statement following the meeting of the working group on December 2.
The proposed quota is 600,000 tons, with 5%, but not less than 5 euros per ton (5.26 US dollars per ton) within the quota and at least 290 euros per ton beyond. Callanish understands that exports outside the EEU will only be allowed through certain border crossings.
The measure is aimed at providing Russian metallurgists with sufficient volumes of strategic raw materials at economically advantageous prices at a difficult time when producers are facing sanctions, the Russian government said in a statement.
