According to Metallurgprom's forecast, pig iron production in Ukraine will amount to 2.55 million tons in August, up 3.2 percent compared to July, while Ukrainian steel production is expected to increase by 4.4 percent compared to July. from July and will amount to 2.350 million tons.
In August, domestic metallurgists will need 660 thousand tons of sinter ore, 1.850 million tons of iron ore concentrate, 440,000 tons of sinter, 695 thousand tons of iron ore pellets, 965,000 tons of limestone, 1.240 million tons of metallurgical coke and 350 thousand tons of steel scrap in order to meet the planned production volumes. this month.
According to the Ukrainian media, in the near future, a reduction in steel exports to Russia is possible after the conclusion of an agreement with the European Union on free trade and association between Ukraine and the EU.
In 2013, Ukraine supplied 13 percent of total iron and steel exports to Russia. At the same time, last year the EU imported 28 percent of Ukrainian-made iron and steel. On the other hand, Russia may increase import tariffs on products from Ukraine after signing a trade agreement with the EU in order to protect the domestic market.
In 2013, Ukraine exported a total of 23.1 million tons of steel, which is 500 thousand tons more than in 2012. The main importers of steel from Ukraine are the EU countries, Asia and the CIS countries.
